How to find us...
Please note!!! - For navigation use Ferienhäuser Dr. Huber!!!
(Using Observatorium Kanzelhöhe guides to a hiking path!)
The Kanzelhöhe (on the half elevation of the mountain Gerlitzen) is located about 10 km NE of Villach near the Lake Ossiacher See. Villach,
a provincial city not far from the Austrian border to Slovenija and
Italy, is within easy reach at the junction of two important Austrian
motorways: The A10 Tauernautobahn from Salzburg to Villach, proceeding
as A11 Karawankenautobahn to Ljubljana (Slovenija), and the A2
Südautobahn from Vienna and Graz to Udine, Trieste and Venice (Italy).
Villach is also a railway stop for all national and international
trains from Austria to Italy and Slovenija. The nearest Airports are
Klagenfurt, Graz, Salzburg and Vienna (domestic flights to Klagenfurt).
There are fast trains from the airports to Villach.
Join the exit Villach - Ossiacher See of the A10
and follow the traffic signs to the village Treffen.
After passing the village turn right and join a small road which is
signposted Kanzelhöhe (toll road) which leads you up to the observatory (about 10 km).
Follow the signs Sonnenobservatorium Kanzelhöhe. A good alternative to avoid the mountain
road (especially during winter) is to take the Kanzelbahn
(cable railway) from Annenheim. After leaving the motorway at the same
exit follow the traffic sign to Annenheim and Kanzelbahn (Gerlitzen
Alpe). The cable railway is not operated all over the year. There is
about 10 minutes to walk (1.5 km) from the top station of the cable
railway to the observatory (Don't take the second section to the top of
the Gerlitzen!). From Villach to Annenheim (cable railway station)
there is a bus service and a local train (Line: Villach - Feldkirchen -
St. Veit).
